Message from the Guild Mistress

Message from the Guild Mistress published on No Comments on Message from the Guild Mistress

Greetings, my clever and talented West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild members!

When I became your Guild Mistress, it was with great joy and delight. I’ve always loved needlework, the making of it, the way it sparkles and feels, how it transforms a simple garment into pure jewelry – all the time connecting us to our predecessors, their art and their work.

Several Beltanes have gone by since I took on that joy, and I told myself I would keep on as Guild Mistress until I found someone with the administrative skills and appreciation for the art to carry on and support the guild I’ve come to love.

Today, I found that person.

I would like to announce that the talented Ascelin Meere of Ravenslocke will be accepting the mantle of Guild Mistress for the West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild after June Crown.

With your welcome and support, she is sure to usher in great things in the coming years!

Thank you for your support, gentle affection and tremendous needleworking these last years. Your giving hearts were noticed and appreciated! Ascelin and I will share more details with the Guild as the transition nears.

Huzzah Ascelin! Huzzah!!

Rose Pouches for our Queens Project

Rose Pouches for our Queens Project published on No Comments on Rose Pouches for our Queens Project

Greetings!

As we begin to move back to a regular schedule of events, it is time to refresh the Rose Pouches for our Queens list of volunteers. For those not familiar with this, we – The Guild – give a rose pouch to the Queen; usually right before she steps down. The pouch is tagged with information about the embroiderer, but this is a service project so the gift is from the Guild and presented, usually, by a representative of the Guild. The pattern and further information is in the attached files to this group.

We need volunteers to continue this tradition. Please look at the file and let me know if you are willing to help. We need 3 each year and need deliveries to me, as coordinator, to begin again this year to cover 2022/3.

The project began in 2003 and every Queen since then has received one to commemorate her reign. They are very prized possessions. At 12th Night 2020 we had a display which you can see more of on Facebook.

Challenge Time! West Antir War Cloaks

Challenge Time! West Antir War Cloaks published on No Comments on Challenge Time! West Antir War Cloaks

Every other year, the WKNG creates a beautiful cloak for the W/AT War. The last two years were subsumed by the pandemic, but this year, IT’S WAR!!!The ever talented Signy Jólinnardóttir created the last and much beloved West Kingdom war cloak. Will you be the creatrix this year? Have your artwork cherished and flaunted by someone for the rest of their life.

All your creation expenses are covered by the WKNG, leaving you free to create without a concern for financial ability. The cloak is traditionally a rectangular or square wool cloth with Viking-oid embroidery in a subject of the embroiderers choosing.

The challenge? You only have four months (due by June) to create. Who will create the War Cloak?! Will it be you!?

Hello West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild!

Autumnal Crown approaches!!

We have delightful news! Ascelin Meere of Ravenslocke (Denise Sullivan) will be hosting the West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild Salon (and leading the Business Meeting in my stead) at 11:30am on Saturday of Crown, at her personal day-shade! Catch up on the latest news about Rose Pouches, the future of the Royal Napkin project and finances of the West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild. All the newest information! Remember to bring your own chair, any libations or clean-finger nibbles you’d enjoy sharing and your latest project. If you have a lap frame, please bring it for her class on Opus Anglicanum!

Ascelin has a marvelous day of Salon planned, beginning at 11 am, with a trestle and slate frame available so passers-by can experience how embroidery was created centuries ago. Please invite your stitch-curious friends to stop by and visit! It’s an accessible and unique opportunity to experience the artistry that is embroidery.

Ascelin will be leading a class on stitches used in the Opus Anglicanum at her Salon (11am, on-going). While she has supplies for 10 people, there are only 6 lap-frames. Please plan to bring a lap frame if you have one! (and your readers for close-work!) Extra supplies, especially silks, are always welcomed.

Have a Joyous Crown and until we meet again, may your needles always fly true!

Hello West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild members!

March Crown approaches this coming weekend and with it, a chance to gather together and let our needles fly while watching our friends in shiny steel whack about on things. Sit in the shade ericside and catch up on the latest Needleworking projects and news with me! Look for us in Westermark’s pavilion on the List Field. The Needleworkers Salon sign will be out front!

Sabrina de la Berre will give an update on Rose Pouch creation (if you’re working on the latest Rose Pouch, won’t you bring it along to show us all?) The Royal Napkin project remains leaderless, so you’ll want to hear the latest on that, and we’ll be discussing receipt reimbursements as well as the 2020 War Cloak. I will be looking for someone to advise me on Viking Embroidery, so if that is your love, come and set next to me so we might draw on things and talk stitching.

Remember your chair and we’ll see you on the List Field this Saturday for an hour, when First Round begins! Until we meet, may your needle fly true!

Hello fine West Kingdom Needleworkers!!!

October Crown is upon us and we are delighted to have a chance to gather once more at Salon, where we work on projects together for a couple hours while sharing news of goings-on.

This Crown, we’ll be meeting in the A&S pavilion at the corner of the List Field, (or hosted by household on the list field). Look for the Salon sign immediately after Invocation and then for the next two hours, and join us. Please remember your chair.

The Guild is looking for someone willing to organize the Royal Napkins project, to step up immediately. Responsibilities include sourcing the napkins, ensuring each reign is covered and delivering or helping the Needleworker deliver their work. Please let me know if this is you.

I’m so looking forward to seeing everyone again at October Crown!

Hero’s Cloak for West AnTir War 2018

Hero’s Cloak for West AnTir War 2018 published on No Comments on Hero’s Cloak for West AnTir War 2018

Hello Fellow Needleworkers!

Every other year, one of our exceptional West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild members volunteers to make the Hero’s cloak for West AnTir War. (The second years are created by the An Tirian Needleworkers Guild for awarding to a Western fighter.) This cloak is treasured and worn by a fortunate An Tirian warrior who is fortunate not only in war, but also to receive such fine work in reward of their heroic efforts.

Let it come to your attention that the 2018 W/AT Hero’s War Cloak was finished with incredible skill by Mistress Signy Jólinnardóttir, OL!

Worked over a span of five months, the cloak is truly a work of art made with great heart and love for our society for no recompense other than the gratitude of her society and the furtherance of our Dream. May all play with as large a heart and with as much skill as Mistress Jólinnardóttir! She has made an Heroic Work!

All Hail the creative talent of Mistress Signy Jólinnardóttir and the West AnTir Hero’s Cloak for 2018! Her needle flies truer and more swiftly than many a sword!

(This message brought to you by the West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild. We make life beautiful!)
